Designate Haiti for Temporary Protected Status

We need your help to spread the word  to urge President Obama to  designate Haiti for Temporary Protected Status.

Please  go to  http://capwiz.com/aila2/home/ and send an automated email to the White House.    – it will only take you about 30 seconds.

Then please take this opportunity for action with your friends and colleagues by directing them to do the same.

Haiti  has long been deserving of TPS status, but in light of the recent earthquake devastation we need to seriously consider our nation’s unfair immigration policies toward Haiti.

Thanks,

UPDATE:  Since TPS was denied by the Bush administration, Haitian advocates are pressing President Obama to take action and grant TPS to Haitians. The Miami Herald recently reported that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton commented on the burden deported Haitians would be to Haiti at this time, and the help that remittances provide to Haitians.

Currently, there are about 30,000 Haitians facing deportation, but if TPS is granted, Haitians in the United States would receive work permits and be able to live temporarily in the United States. Read the rest of this entry »

Coming up with a comprehensive immigration reform bill that serves our national security and economic interests and without giving away too much amnesty, remains a major issue of contention. We realize that there are strong emotions on both fronts, but ignoring a problem will, as it always does, make the problem worse. Read the rest of this entry »

President Obama Intends to Address Comprehensive Immigration Reform

The New York Times reported last week that the White House will take steps to tackle the controversial subject of immigration by the end of this year. the President will speak publicly in May, and serious work on legislation will begin in the summer with the expectation that legislation will be ready in the fall.

Many people see this as a natural step for the President to take since he is fulfilling a campaign promise. While the immigration system is dysfunctional to say the least, there is strong opposition to comprehensive legislation, especially in a time when many Americans have lost jobs.
