When asked to comment on this ground breaking policy change, immigration attorney Peter J. Loughlin said “It is a common sense approach to immigration reform that has been far too long in the making—but welcome nonetheless.
According to the firm’s senior partner, Thomas W. Goldman, “The reason for the government’s huge backlog of cases (248,000 nationwide) is that so many of these proceedings are brought against immigrants with no criminal background and who pose little or no threat to the nation–instead of focusing on those with a criminal or terrorist history.

The United States of America has filed suit against the State of Arizona.
No more rumors today is the day it all starts. Some critics have expressed concern that the suit is drafted too broadly to succeed and thus premature. Others feel this this is a frontal attack that will gain momentum and support once the issues are fully addressed before the American public.
Please take a moment to read US v Arizona now and report back to share your comment.

It is no surprise that failure on the part of Congress to reform the immigration laws has resulted in a record number of bills and resolutions being passed by the various States. Just in the first quarter of 2009, 1,040 immigration bills and resolutions were introduced in all 50 states.
The main areas being addressed are employment, identification/drivers licenses and law enforcement, but states are also reviewing policies concerning education, health and benefits. Some examples of the bills are as follows:
Employment
Forty-one states addressed the E-Verify system, immigrant eligibility for unemployment compensation and other employment verification systems.
Identification/Driver’s Licenses
Most of the bills dealt with lawful immigration status or citizenship requirement for driver’s licenses and other state issued licenses such as hunting, retail and professional licenses.
Law Enforcement
The controversial issue of local governments enforcing federal immigration laws was addressed by a number of states, including cooperative agreements in which ...

LEADERS ORGANIZE TO PERSUADE CONGRESS TO ENACT IMMIGRATION REFORM
The Immigration debate continues as leaders from the Center for American Progress, NAACP, AFL-CIO, the National Council of La Raza, agriculture industry, and other groups gathered on June 3, 2009 to begin a national campaign for reform of the immigration laws. More than 700 advocates from over 35 states are participating in meetings, town halls, training and lobbying visits to encourage Congress to act.

So, to those opponents of reform we say this – immigration reform and economic recovery are not at odds with each other, but go hand in hand.”
